ISO 9001:2015 ushered in a step change in the way quality management systems are implemented across all industries. Organizations need to place greater emphasis on the identification and management of risks associated with their activities, processes and output products and services.
Quality management systems should include the appropriate process for identifying and managing risk mitigation and opportunity realization. ISO 29001:2020 complements ISO 9001:2015 with requirements and guidance for managing risks associated with the oil and gas industry and provides a framework for aligning the requirements with complementary standards used in the industry. Recognizing that there is a wide scope of supply in the industry, from standard to specialized materials, equipment and services, it ensures that relevant risk-based approaches are taken when determining and evaluating quality management system requirements.
