Although this standard is built on the ISO 9001 Quality management system; BSCI is a special standard initiated by the Brussels-based Foreign Trade Association (FTA). BSCI is based on the occupational and worker safety standards of the ILO (International Organization of Workers) and promotes the continuous improvement of the social performances of the supply chain. The goal is to be certified by standards such as SA 8000 or equivalent, thus supporting sustainable working conditions worldwide. It aims to set the conditions for the establishment, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of this management system. It should not be forgotten that the adoption of a quality management system is a strategic decision for an organization, but also a necessity of our age.
The main items of the BSCI criteria are as follows;
Compliance with Laws (The fact that the OHS Law No. 6331, which is currently in force in Turkey, is being implemented in the company. For example, businesses that need to have an expert have an Occupational Safety Expert)
Compliance of the working hours with the Labor Law in force Compensation (The notice pay of the worker to be dismissed, severance pay calculations should be as specified in the law)
Preventing the employment of children (preventing the employment of unregistered child workers in enterprises, despite the fact that child labor is prohibited by law. Workers under the age of 16 are in child labor status, but they can do apprenticeships.)
Prevention of forced labor and punitive measures (Forcible prolongation of the working hour of a worker without legal consent, employment in a job he does not want means forced labor, and is prohibited by law.)
Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining (employees have the right to unionize and engage in union activities, the employer cannot prevent this in any way.
Preventing all kinds of discrimination (workers may be from different religions, different cultures, breaks or permissions must be provided for the prayers required by religion and prayer times, a place of worship must be provided. If there are workers with the same name from the same village, it must be ensured that there is no favoritism or favor)
Workplace health and safety The workplace should be made a safe environment. For example, the Occupational Health Board and occupational safety teams should be established and meet periodically.
